2020 Old Pranburi Market

↑Every year I go to the local Old Pranburi Market. Not much is changing, but little by little modern times is coming in. In 2018 I went to the Old Pranburi Market en now in 2020 again. Pranburi was founded 200 years ago during the Ayudhaya period. Besides serene beaches and a lush national park, Sam Roi Yot, it has a market aged over 200 years old. The city was once a commercial hub in the area following the railway line expansion through the province in 1905. About five years ago the market was revitalised by a group of locals hoping to preserve the traditional way of life. They created ‘The Walking Street’ along the well-maintained old-style shophouses. Situated behind the Pranburi train station, the street houses, several shops and stalls are selling handmade products and traditional food and desserts. The market boasts traditional Thai utensils used in the past, old books, handicrafts and a lot of local products, as Thai desserts and traditional Thai coffee. The second floor of an old wooden house is nowadays transformed into a Thai coffee shop.
