Usually when somebody is mentioning Macau most people are thinking of casinos, the Vegas of the East. Well this portfolio is not about that side of Macau, but about the old town, the historical center of this beautiful city. The narrow streets of Macau old center are still today houses, restaurants, bakeries and shops.  In the 16th century, Macau was rented to Portugal as a trading port and settled in 1557. Transfer of sovereignty of Macau from Portugal to the PRC took place just nineteen years ago in 1999. Evidence of this 440 year old Portuguese influence can be observed throughout Macau in the architecture. The history has built such a captivating contrast of old and new. Macau is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a lot of historical locations. Among the most noticeable attractions are St. Paul's Church and Largo do Senado which are known as the heart of old Macau. On Senado Square, the hub of Macau’s main peninsula, are the buildings only two- and three-stories high. The old centre has old mosaic pathways and squares and is the location of many important ruins and structures such as the ruins of St Paul's Church, St. Augustine's Square, A-Ma Temple, the Moorish Barracks, Mandarin's House, a section of the Old City Walls and much more.
